Sloper Intake Calculation

In tailoring a skirt sloper is a foundation pattern used to create derived patterns. To determine which pattern (amount of darts, width of darts) will flatter you best, a value called «intake» has to be calculated.
Be aware that in the garment industry 4cm is generally added to the hip circumference and 2cm to the waist. This way intermediate sizes are produced. For a personal skirt pattern you can add only 1cm at the waist... provided the skirt will be worn next to the skin or with a thin top.

Determine your sloper

Hips Only one decimal allowed
← H → Total ease to be added on the full pattern - The value is divided by 2 for half a pattern
← W → Total ease to be added on the full pattern - The value is divided by 2 for half a pattern

Difficulty

The main difficulty is to sew an invible zipper if you opt for such a closure system. Beginners avoid check fabrics, the slightest offset could effectively ruin the end result!

Recommended fabrics

These patterns are for woven fabrics ONLY. Fabrics with a small stretch percentage can be used.

Cutting layout and yardage

Lenght of a skirt + waistband or facing if standard fabric width (140 -> 160cm). Twice the height of a skirt if small width (90cm) + waistband or facing. Make a toile first, foundation patterns have to be tweaked.
